What is Units of measurements for construction works?

The unit of measurement for construction work based on nature of work, mostly it’s measured with following units like, Area (m2/ft2) Volume (m3/ft3), meter (m/ft), Numbers (no) & Weight (kg/Tonne) some of construction works/activities measurements units are stated below.

Earth Work 

1. Earth work Excavation it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet) which is including removal of plants, Garbage

2. Earth Filling/back filling it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet) which is including all type of compaction work

3. Levelling/Grading it is evaluated/measured in m/ft (meter/Feet)

4. Water proofing work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

5. Dewatering – Item (Varying as per project Specification)

Concreting Work

6. Plain Cement Concrete it is evaluated/measured in it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet)

7. Reinforced cement Concrete it is evaluated/measured in it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet)

8. Reinforcement it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

9. Shuttering Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

10. Form Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

Masonry Work

11. Brick Work it is evaluated/measured in it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet)

12. Block Work it is evaluated/measured in it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet)

13. Stone Masonry it is evaluated/measured in m3/ft3 (cubic meter/cubic Feet)

14. Builders Work Item Varying as per project Specification

15. Partition Wall it is depends on project Specification

16. Dry Wall it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

17. Fiber Mesh it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

Finishing Work

18. Plastering work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

19. Flooring Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

20. Pointing Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

21. Tiling Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

22. Marble/Granite work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

23. Floor Epoxy it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

24. False Ceiling it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

Painting Work

25. Primer Application it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

26. Filler (Wall Putty) it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

27. Painting it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

Carpentry Work

28. Timber it is evaluated/measured in cubic meters (m3) or cubic feet (ft3)

29. Plywood it is evaluated/measured in square meters (m2) or square feet (ft2)

30. Doors, Windows it is varying depends on Size and which type of material used to manufacture, mostly used in  Numbers/measured in cubic meters (m3) or cubic feet (ft3)/square meters (m2) or square feet (ft2)

31. Glass Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

32. Screen it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

Metal Work

33. Aluminum Work it is evaluated/measured in m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

34. Structural Steel Work it is evaluated/measured depends on project specification mostly in Kg (Kilogram) or m2/ft2 (square meter/square Feet)

MEP Works (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Work)

Mechanical Work

35. ELV works (CCTV, Fire alarm) measured by the numbers, which is based on ELV works CCTV, Fire alarm function

36. AC units, Lift measured by the numbers, which is based on capacity of AC or Lift 

37. HVAC Ducting,  measured by the square meters (m2) or square feet (ft2)

38. HVAC Piping measured by the meters (m) or feet (ft)

39. Chillers measured by the Tons or Kilowatts (KW)

40. Pumps measured by the Numbers which is based on Pumps capacity

Electrical Work

41. Electrical wiring and cables, Conduit – measured in meters (m) or feet (ft)

42. Electrical panels and distribution boards (DB), SMDB – measured by the Number of panels or boards required

43. Electrical outlets and switches – measured by the Number of outlets or switches required

44. Lighting fixtures – measured by the Number of fixtures required

45. Electrical accessories – measured by the Number of accessories required

46. Circuit breakers, fuses & ATS Panals – measured by the Number of breakers or fuses required

47. Electrical Cable Tray measured by the meters (m) or feet (ft)

Plumbing Work

48. Drainage & Water Pipes and fittings – measured in meters (m) or feet (ft)

49. Water supply and drainage fixtures – measured by the number of fixtures needed

50. Valves and faucets – measured by the number of valves or faucets needed

51. Water heaters, Water Tanks – measured by the number of units

52. Pumps and pressure tanks – measured by the number of units or by the tank size (measured in gallons or liters)

53. Plumbing Fixtures measured by the number of fixtures
