How to calculate concrete Volume for Rectangular, Square & Circular Column

Constructing columns is a crucial aspect of building structures, and accurately calculating the concrete volume is essential for a successful construction project. Whether you’re working on rectangular, square, or circular columns, the process involves some straightforward mathematical formulas.

Volume Calculation for Circular column

Volume of Concrete = Cross Sectional Area X Height (h)

Cross sectional Area = πr2

As per drawing diameter (d) = 400 mm / 0.40 m

So, Radius (r) = d/2 =400 /2 = 200 mm / 0.20m

Cross sectional Area (πr2)= π x 0.20², (π = 3.14)

Cross sectional Area = 3.14 x 0.20² = 0.1256 m² (Square meter)

Volume of Concrete = 0.126 m² X Height (h)

As per drawing Height (h) = 5.00 m

So, Volume of Concrete is = 0.126 x 5 m² = 0.628 m³ (Cubic meter)

Volume Calculation for Rectangular column

Volume of Concrete = Cross Sectional Area X Height (h)

Cross sectional Area = Length (L) X Breath (B)

As per drawing L= 600 mm / 0.60 m & B= 400 mm  / 0.40 m

Cross sectional Area = 0.60 x 0.40 = 0.24 m² (Square meter)

Volume of Concrete = 0.24 m² X Height

As per drawing Height (h) = 5.00 m

So, Volume of Concrete is = 5 x 0.24 m² = 1.2 m³  (cubic meter)

Volume Calculation for Square column

Volume of Concrete = Cross Sectional Area X Height (h)

Cross sectional Area = Length (L) X Length (L)

As per drawing L= 400 mm / 0.40 m

Cross sectional Area (L X L)= 0.40 x 0.40 = 0.16 m² (Square meter)

Volume of Concrete = 0.16 m² X Height

As per drawing Height (h) = 5.00 m

So, Volume of Concrete is = 5 x 0.16 m² = 0.80 m³ (Cubic meter)
