How to calculate volume & Water capacity of Circular Tank

Accurate calculation of a tank’s volume and water capacity is important for various construction and engineering applications. The below calculations ensure that the tank’s size and capacity meet the project’s requirements. Proper volume estimation aids in efficient water usage, load distribution, and the smooth functioning of water intake and outflow systems.

In this article, we will provide a step-by-step procedure to calculate the volume and water capacity of a circular water tank

Formula for Volume of a Circular Tank

Volume = Area x Height

Area =  π × r²

Volume (V) = π × r² × H

For Example, From the image
Value of  π = 3.14

Find the Radius (r): Radius = Diameter / 2
r = 1.45  / 2 = 0.725 m

Height (h) = 1.70m

So, Volume (V) =  3.1416 × (0.725)² × 1.70
Volume = 2.809 m³

Convert Volume to Liters

Since 1 cubic meter (m³) equals 1,000 liters:

Water Capacity = 2.809 m³ × 1,000 = 2,809 liters

Convert Liters to Gallons

1 liter is equivalent to 0.264172 US gallons

So, 2,809 liters × 0.264172 = 742.1 US gallons

1 liter is equivalent to: 0.219969 UK gallons

So, 2,809 liters × 0.219969 = 617.8 UK gallons

So, This Tank Capacity is 2809.00 liters / 742.10 US gallons / 617.80 UK gallons
